 KARACHI: On Monday evening, a blast struck Karachi’s Bolton Market in Kharadar, killing one woman and leaving nearly a dozen others — including three police officers — injured, Officials stated that the police vehicle was the victim as three officers, including an ASI (assistant sub-inspector), sustained injuries from an improvised explosive weapon (IED) placed in a motorcycle and detonated nearby.

According to police, the victim was riding in a rack shaft with her child at the time of the explosion. All the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals. All public health facilities within the metropolis have been declared in an emergency. A fire brigade arrived at the scene and extinguished the flames after the blast. Eyewitnesses claimed that the blast’s sound could be heard far away.

This development comes four days following an improvised explosive devices (IEDs) explosion in Saddar that left one person dead and thirteen others injured. Investigations into the terror incident are ongoing.

According to Sharjeel Kharal, South DIG Sharjeel Kharal, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), said that he spoke with the driver of vehicle and confirmed that the bomb was detonated when the mobile reached the point. According to the deputy inspector-general, the explosion is under investigation and police will use every resource possible to capture the culprits.

“In such large cities with huge populations, it is possible to have a blast when someone parks a motorbike or cycles and walks away. He said that this was indeed a challenge. “Deploying police in every corner of a city is impossible” Sindh Saeed Ghani, Labour Minister, stated that terrorist incidents were taking place at various places in Pakistan and that it was a problem not only for the provincial governments but also for Pakistan as a whole.

He said that the police and rangers have defeated terrorists before, and they will win.

Condemnations pour in
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned this incident and expressed sorrow at the loss of a woman to the blast. He expressed sympathy for all the victims of the explosion and directed authorities to bring the criminals to justice as soon as possible. PM Shehbaz also assured the Sindh government that the Centre would provide complete assistance and directed the strengthening of security in the country.

He also requested that the provincial government ensure that the injured receive state-of-the art treatment facilities. Chief Minister Punjab Hamza Shahbaz also condemned this incident and prayed that the victims of the blast be quickly treated. The chief minister stated in a statement that only unity and consensus could stop these incidents […] which are intended to cause instability in the country.

The chief minister stated that officials will have to think beyond politics in order to stop the attacks. MQM-P Rabta Committee condemned this incident and expressed solidarity to the families of the deceased. The body stated that “Increasing terrorist incidents are alarming […] Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), should deal with terrorists avec an iron fist.”
