 BHUBANESWAR K-pop, or Korean pop music, is a hugely popular genre due to its popularity among young people. On Thursday, a Brazilian girl was selected to join the K-pop group Blackswan.

Lenka, a young girl from Rourkela, was selected to complete the final leg of training in Seoul in December 2017. She will be joining the Korean pop band Blackswan as a member. DR Music, the promoter of the group, announced in May that global auditions were being held to replace Hyeme. Lenka and Gabriela, a Brazilian girl, were selected from 4,000 applicants via a YouTube audition program.

Who Is Sriya Lenka?

Although DR Music had intended to select one Blackswan member, they chose to announce the names Lenka (and Gabriela) as the 5th and 6th members of the K-pop group. The group posted on Instagram that “With their debut we will be back together with Blackswan.” Gabriela and Lenka will be visiting Seoul in the next few months to practice for their next album. The two have been undergoing a rigorous training program that included vocal, rap, dance, personal training, language and musical instruments.

In 2011, Rania, the company that started Blackswan, was renamed BP Rania. The company later renamed it, BP Rania, before adopting its current name in October 2020. It currently has a K-pop girl group consisting of Go Young Heun (Youngheun), a Senegalese singer, rapper-model Fatou Samba from Belgium, Kim Da Hye (Judy), and Larissa Ayumi Kartes Sakata (Leia), a maknae Brazilian and Japanese singer. The group’s debut album, Goodbye Rania (2020), was followed by the release of its first single album, Close to Me (2021).

When she saw Exo’s Growl video, Lenka was inspired to try and imitate the moves. She had to practice on her roof during Covid 2020 and learn how to create audition videos via YouTube. She learned Korean online when she began auditioning.

Avinash Lenka is the father of Lenka and works in Jharsuguda in a private firm. He said that he was thrilled to hear that his daughter would become the first Indian K-pop star. Sriya made it, despite my faith in her hard work. Lenka said that despite all my doubts about her future, she encouraged me to encourage her to pursue her passion for dance. She had participated in many dance competitions and always wanted to become a dancer.

K-pop, or Korean pop, was born in South Korea in the 1990s. It included many musical styles such as hip hop, rock, and electronica. The country saw an economic boom in the 1990s, which brought more purchasing power to its youth. This allowed them to have easier access to American pop culture and artists.
