 Yes, a rock and roll band, has announced that Alan White, their much-loved drummer has died at the tender age of 72. After a brief illness, the musician died at home. White stated that he was looking forward to the forthcoming UK tour with Yes and to celebrating his 50th year anniversary with Yes. He joined Yes in 1972 for Close to the Edge.

“Yes announce that Alan White, their beloved drummer, and friend for 50 years, has died after a brief illness,” their statement said. “The news shocked and amazed the entire Yes Family.” It continued, “He recently celebrated his 40th anniversary of marriage to his beloved wife Gigi.” “Alan died peacefully at his home. White was born in County Durham in 1949. He joined Yes in 1972 for the Close to the Edge Tour.

After a 1969 phone call to Lennon, he had worked previously with the Plastic Ono band. He continued working with Lenon on the Imagine album as well as with George Harrison on All Things Must Pass. White worked alongside many other musicians throughout the years, including Joe Cocker, Ginger Baker’s Air Force and Gary Wright.

Alan is considered one of the greatest rock drummers ever. Born in 1949 in County Durham, he joined YES in July 1972 to take part in the Close to the Edge Tour. After a 1969 phone call, he had worked previously with John Lennon’s Plastic Ono group and was invited to the Toronto Rock Festival.

Alan worked with Lennon on several albums, including Imagine. He also collaborated with George Harrison on All Things Must Pass. Over the years, he also collaborated with many other musicians, such as Joe Cocker, Gary Wright and Doris Troy, to name a few. As a member of YES, Alan White was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

Since 2016, Alan had suffered a number of health issues that have limited his time on stage with YES. Jay Schellen filled in, and Alan joined the band towards the end of each set to great applause. YES will dedicate the 50th anniversary Close to The Edge UK Tour to White in June.
